Obituary

Lillian Ann Kotes (Victory), affectionately known to friends and family as Lou, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2024. Born on February 7, 1952, in Helena, AR, Lou's life was a testament to her selfless, loving, and thoughtful nature.

Lou began her journey in the heart of the South, where her infectious laughter and generous spirit were nurtured. She grew up in a close-knit family, working alongside her mother, Maxine Victory, as a server at a local banquet hall. It was here that Lou learned the value of hard work and the joy of serving others. Though her parents, Maxine and John Victory, and her brothers, Steve and James Victory, have predeceased her, the legacy of their family's warmth and camaraderie lives on through Lou.

In the bustling city of Chicago, Lou found her professional calling at United Insurance, where she was esteemed by colleagues for her dedication and kindness. However, her most cherished role was that of a full-time mother, which she embraced wholeheartedly at the age of 26. Her daughter, Amy (Kotes) Seidel, her son-in-law, Ed, and their children, Evan, Liam, and Bryan, were the lights of her life. Lou's love and guidance have left an indelible mark on their hearts.

Lou's husband, Craig Kotes, was her partner in life's dance, and though he predeceased her, their shared memories continued to bring joy and comfort to those who knew them. Lou's role as a loving aunt extended to many, and her ability to make each family member feel special was one of her most remarkable gifts.

Her zest for life was evident in her myriad interests. Lou found solace in the great outdoors, whether it was camping under the stars, smelt fishing at dawn, or simply enjoying the company of friends and family around a fire. Her love for music and dance often found her singing karaoke or moving gracefully across a dance floor. Lou was also a fierce competitor in card and board games, and she relished the moments spent playing with her grandchildren, whom she adored babysitting and spoiling at every opportunity.

Watching game shows was another of Lou's favorite pastimes, and in many ways, she lived by the timeless words of Albert Einstein: "Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile." Lou's existence was a true embodiment of this sentiment, as she devoted herself to the happiness and well-being of those around her.

As we celebrate Lou's life, we remember a woman whose presence was a source of comfort and joy. Her laughter was contagious, her advice was sought after, and her shoulder was always available to lean on. Lou's capacity for love knew no bounds, and she gave of herself freely and unconditionally.

The world is a little less bright without Lillian Ann Kotes, but her legacy of love and selflessness will continue to inspire all who had the pleasure of knowing her. As we say farewell to Lou, we hold tight to the memories that she has gifted us, the lessons she has taught us, and the love that she has shared.

Lou's life will be celebrated in a manner that honors the fullness with which she lived and the countless ways she touched the hearts of those around her. She will be dearly missed, but her spirit will remain a guiding light for her beloved family and friends. Rest in peace, dear Lou, and thank you for the beautiful imprints you've left on our lives.

A celebration of life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 3, 2024 at Coopers Hawk Restrauant and Winery, 15690 Harlem Ave, Orland Park, IL 60462
